SURVEIL at rEvolver Festival 2019

Surveil is an immersive comedy about modern surveillance and invasion of privacy from Tom Hill and Devin Mackenzie of Vancouver theatre/comedy duo Hip.Bang! and director Marie Farsi (Crow’s Theatre). Following the story of two young tech company founders, Surveil demonstrates, celebrates and deconstructs the ways the world is watching you. Attendees should arrive early to sign the mandatory waiver. Surveil debuted at JFL Northwest and TOSketchFest, before winning the 2018 Vancouver Fringe Artistic Risk Award.

Hip.Bang! would like to acknowledge the Canada Council for the Arts and rEvolver Festival for their support of Surveil, as well as the incredible team behind its re-development for May 2019: Peter Carlone (actor), Kory Mathewson (intelligent software), Sara Vickruck (sound design), Aidan Hammond (stage manager), Maarten Bayliss (assistant stage manager), Alex Tindal (consultant) and the countless artists, friends, and volunteers who have contributed to its development over the years. Tom and Devin would also like to thank their incredible partners Amy and Kelly.

The dust has settled on another fringe season and we are proud to announce we were the recipients of the Artistic Risk award at the Vancouver Fringe Festival. There are so many people to thank for helping us produce such a wild and challenging show, so here we go *Takes HUGE breath*…

Thank you to Marie Farsi for directing us, pushing us and being such an incredible collaborator. We found new depth to our process and our art because of you. Thank you to Peter Carlone for going above and beyond designing and handling all the tech demands while simultaneously creating and acting as our third character Kyle. Thank you to Alex Tindal for flying to Edmonton, learning an extremely challenging show in less than a week, and continuing to polish and elevate the show night in and night out. Thank you to Jill Bethan Rae for hustling behind the scenes and getting the word out. Thank you to Colin Edward Cowan and Jenn Bojm at China Cloud Gallery for providing the best creative space to work while developing the show. Thank you to Birkley Wisniewski and the team at Sugar Swing for giving us a space to perform in Edmonton. Thank you to Jay Ono and Vancouver TheatreSports for allowing us to use The Improv Centre as a dream BYOV on Granville Island. Thank you to all our techs Maarten Bayliss, Vincent Forcier, Larissa Poho, and Laura Skelton for constantly trouble shooting and nailing it! Thank you to all our volunteers standing on the front lines putting waivers in front of people and demanding they sign, you are brave and we love you. Thank you to Ronald Dario for the exceptional design andDavid Manuel for the photos! Thank you to Edmonton Fringe Theatre and Vancouver Fringe Festival for all the support and opportunity to perform. Thanks to our loved ones for putting up with us as we disappeared for weeks at a time. Finally, thank you to everyone who made the time to see the show, to everyone who reached out after, and everyone who encouraged others to go. We really appreciate it.
